Unfortunately our plans to dine at the Rivers Edge Cafe were thwarted when we learnt that the Resturant was closing on 31st August.

Members had suggested Velo Winery at Legana so a booking has been secured for 30+ on Wednesday 2 September, 12.30 for 1pm luncheon. The cost for the two course/choice meal has been set at $58/head.

Please RSVP to me as soon as practical [email protected] or phone 0418461547.

Partners and friends are very welcome as our Club fine dining experiences are an established  feature of our Probus year.

It is planned to have three fine dinning experiences a year. The next will be in either November this year or February 2016 as we have our Christmas dinner scheduled for early December.

Fine Dining at The Red Feather Inn 14 April 15

Wow!! what a fine dining silver service experience was had today at the Red Feather Inn. This was our 5th and most successful gathering yet with 26 in attendance. The three course menu with choices for each course was prepared by chef Lewis and he did not disappoint. The attention to detail and service by four waitress's was second to none attending to our every need.

Although the day had a distinctive chill of a winters day we all settled into the Inn comfortably and enjoyed great food, wine and conversation.

Lets do this again this coming summer with a ' Long Table Lunch' . Thank you to all who attended making it a magical day.

FINE DINING IN 2015

Posted by Paul A.C. Richards on January 1, 2015 at 3:45 PM Comments comments (0)

2014 proved to be a stop/go for fine dining experiences. However, we managed to finally settle on Josef Chromy's Restaurant at Relbia. It was a lack lustre luncheon not dissimilar to Hallam's which were both  a little disappointing.

This year I will be selecting with your approval at least three dining experiences. My choices so far include:-

The Me Wah which offers a high quality dining experience with a flexible menu and service second to none.

The Red Feather Inn, a truly interesting option but may require a confirmed party of at least 15 to secure a fine dining experience. Also this may have to be an evening meal and would of course include partners which lends itself to a winter experience. I will be making enquiries .

The Black Cow Bistro, renown for its steak and sharing  the same pedigree as the acclaimed Stillwater. A possibility of in town dining with good parking opposite.

The Rosevears Waterfront Tavern, offering a unique waterfront dining experience 20 minutes north of Launceston on the Tamar River. Good parking.

Another option will be to explore a breakfast experience combined with a walk with Chris Cohen. I will be proposing a breakfast at ' Velo' a vineyard at Legana which can be combined with a walk to Middle/Pig Island to work off an egg and bacon experience. The breakfast is only offered on a Sunday....so food for thought....see menu by going to http:/www./velowines.com.au

The other alternative for a mid week breakfast could be a small group visiting Cucina Simpatica on the corner of Margaret and Frederick Streets opposite the Brickfields. However there are plenty of suitable venues within the Launceston CBD to explore such options.

We will discuss at the January meeting.

What the New Year Brings - 2015-

Posted by Paul A.C. Richards on December 30, 2014 at 5:25 PM Comments comments (0)

WELCOME TO 2015

I hope that you have all had a wonderful Christmas and that the New Year will bring new and rewarding challenges. The Club has a solid progamme in store for the members and here is what we have for January /February 2015.

Guest Speakers

The guest speaker for our first meeting of the year scheduled for Tuesday 27 January will be the return of Lindsay Millar who will address us on ' The History of Aviation in Tasmanian'. The Meanderer will be Max Boyd and the Man Behind the Badge Robert Worland.

In February our guest speaker is Dr Marie-Louise Bird who will speak on 'Technology in Stroke Rehabilitation'.

Walks

Chris Cohen has a planned walk for early February...one of his old favourites' The Supply River Mill ' walk. This walk is quite short but has the advantage of a table available for morning tea and a chat. This walk is scheduled for Tuesday 3 February.

Fishing Trip

Possibly scheduled for Easter Tuesday 7 April at Clyne Vale. This is a popular venue and Darrell and Vera Manton have agreed to host members for a pleasant days fishing in the South Esk River.

Skemps Reserve

This will be arranged with the Field Naturalist Club. This is a beautiful and serene site where several walks are available, short, long or just what ever you feel like...or just relax and take in the country air whilst enjoying a sausage sizzle.

There is no doubt that 2015 will be yet another great Probus year with a host of excellent guest speakers, regular walks, fishing trips and a host of sites of historical importance to be visited with Jim Anderson over the coming months.
