Ivan D James AO
President, Probus Club of Launceston
Thanks to our webmaster Paul Richards the club website is now up-to date and I recommend strongly that you visit http://www.launcestonprobusclub.webs.com to see which events are upcoming, and for reports on what has happened and pictures thereof. Well done Paul.
Paul is and has always been very active in organising events for our participation and enjoyment. I am thinking in particular about his being the coordinator for the Fishing Group (together with Chris Cohen) and the Fine Dining Group.
Apart from these activities Paul has more on his plate with his art studies and as Chairman of the LGH Visual Arts committee, and he has requested that someone else take over his position as coordinator of the Fine Dining Group.
As a result I am calling for candidates for this position, which requires organising lunches/dinners for our members in good restaurants 2-3 times a year.
Please come forward! You will enjoy it.

From the President
We welcome Leigh Jones as the new secretary. Leigh spontaneously offered his services to fill the position that had unexpectedly become vacant. Being the secretary of our Club is a demanding, time consuming job and I thank Leigh for his willingness to take it on.
Thanks Leigh, I look forward to working with you. Our thanks go also to Brian Mathews for in the interim acting as secretary and spending time with Leigh to assist him with various aspects of the new job.
As mentioned on a number of occasions I see getting to know the other members of our Club better, leading to friendship and fellowship, as the most important aspect of membership of Probus. Time during the coffee break of the general meeting provides an important opportunity to talk to fellow members but is somewhat short. Participating in the regular lunches after the general meetings is an excellent way to discuss interesting subjects with other members in a relaxed atmosphere. These lunches usually take place at the Commercial Hotel (corner of George and Cimitiere Streets) and I strongly welcome you to join in.

At the occasion of the appearance of
the first issue of our Bulletin in a new format
The May 2014 issue of the monthly Bulletin of our Probus Club marks a special occasion: the change of the guard. Up to and including the April 2014 issue the Bulletin has been produced and edited by John Bowen and that extended over a period of many years. He has done that in an exemplary way, for which we are most grateful. Thank you very much John!
The May issue is produced by the new editor and new member of the management committee Bryan Wickens. Bryan has used the opportunity to publish the May issue in a new format It contains more pages and is printed in colour. And he managed to achieve all that without a cost increase for the Club. Well done Bryan!
